Error message "You must open Scoutware / Statware on the desktop and perform TWO HotSyncs to license the handheld with the desktop application before you can use Scoutware / Statware on this handheld."
This message can appear for several reasons. Follow the instructions below.
- Perform a successful HotSync.
- If you cannot perform a successful HotSync, close all applications open on the desktop computer. Check to ensure that the handheld computer is connected to the desktop computer. If the handheld computer was not connected to the desktop computer, once connected, try to perform a successful HotSync. If you still cannot perform a successful HotSync, restart the desktop computer. After restarting, try to perform a successful HotSync. If you cannot perform a successful HotSync, contact the manufacturer of your handheld computer.
- Perform a second successful HotSync.
- After performing two successful HotSyncs, go to the handheld computer home screen. Tap on the Scoutware / Statware icon.
If you still receive the message, you may need to repair the conduit on your computer. To do this, follow the instructions below.
- Open Scoutware / Statware on the desktop computer.
- Click Tools (upper left). Go to Utilities, then go to Palm Utilities, and click Repair Conduit.
- Read the message. If you choose Yes, the conduit repair tool will launch. Follow the instructions.
- The desktop computer will restart when complete. You must restart the desktop computer to complete this process.
- Once the desktop computer has restarted, open Scoutware / Statware on the desktop computer.
- Perform a successful HotSync.
- Perform a second successful HotSync.
- After performing two successful HotSyncs, go to the handheld computer home screen. Tap on the Scoutware / Statware icon.
In some cases, especially if you have more than one version of the Palm software on your computer, the conduit repair may still not work. Check to see if the conduit is correctly registered on your computer by doing the following:
- Right click on the HotSync icon in the lower right corner of your screen, and a menu will appear. (The HotSync icon is a half-red and half-blue circle with two arrows inside of the icon.)
- If you have version 6.0 or older of the HotSync Manager software (usually always Windows XP or older), select Custom from the menu. If you have version 7.0 or newer of HotSync Manager (usually always Windows Vista), select Settings, and then click the Applications link on the left side of the screen.
- From the conduit list that appears, check for the conduit for your particular product and version. For example, if you have version 6 of the Statware Basketball product, you will be looking for an entry called Statware Basketball v6.
- If you see the entry, click once to highlight it, and click Change or Configure. You should see a message box appear that tells you what version of the conduit you are running.
If you do not see the conduit for your product and version when doing the above procedure, you may need to remove all of the Palm software on your computer, and re-install by downloading Palm Desktop from Palm's web site for your particular Windows operating system and handheld. PLEASE NOTE: YOU SHOULD ONLY DO THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE IF YOU ONLY USE YOUR PALM HANDHELD FOR A STATWARE OR SCOUTWARE PRODUCT. IF YOU USE YOUR HANDHELD TO KEEP TRACK OF YOUR CONTACTS, APPOINTMENTS, MEMOS, E-MAIL, ETC., THEN DO NOT DO THIS PROCEDURE AS YOU CAN LOSE ALL OF THAT INFORMATION.
- Go into Add/Remove Programs your computer's control panel (Start > Settings > Control Panel on Windows XP, or Start > Control Panel > Uninstall program under Programs heading).
- Uninstall all entries for Palm, PalmOne, Handspring, or other entries for your handheld. Make sure that if the system asks you to restart after uninstalling a component, restart the computer and then get back into the Add/Remove Programs area after the computer is finished restarting.
- Visit the support page of Palm's web site, find the model of your handheld, and when you arrive at the main page for your handheld, there should be a Palm Desktop Windows download link. (You may need to click on a Downloads tab to see the Palm Desktop download links, depending on your handheld model.) Save this installer to your computer's desktop, and when it is done, close your web browser and run the Palm installer.
- Follow the Palm Desktop installer, making sure that if it asks you to attach your handheld and sync, that you can do so without any kind of error.
- Once the Palm software has installed, restart your computer if it did not automatically restart, and make sure that you can do a HotSync without any errors or messages.
Once you have done this, go back up to the conduit repair section above and try to run through the conduit repair to see if the conduit shows up on your system normally.
